NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Sunday said he was heading home to be with his family following the death of his grandmother.Leaving the residence of senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, Dipke questioned the security restrictions imposed in Delhi ahead of the CJP’s proposed protest against Chief Clection Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.“I am going home now to be with my family, as my grandmother has passed away. Ashutosh and Saurav will hold a press conference at 2 pm and announce the future course of action… The whole world has seen what happened.”“The entire Delhi was brought to a standstill to protect Gyanesh Kumar. What is it about Gyanesh Kumar that you inconvenienced millions of people yesterday to protect him?,” Dipke said.
CJP to announce future course of action at 2pm
Dipke said CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das would address a press conference at 2pm to announce the party’s next steps following the detention of its leaders and restrictions ahead of the planned demonstration. The CJP had called for a ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ protest demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Delhi Police had denied permission for the gathering, citing law-and-order and public safety concerns. The trio was produced before the executive magistrate on Sunday and released on condition that they would not “breach peace” for a year.
Dipke heads home after grandmother’s death
Dipke’s family on Sunday alleged that the Delhi Police did not release him despite repeated pleas so he could attend his grandmother’s funeral. The CJP founder’s paternal grandmother Savitribai Shankarrao Dipke (85) passed away in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district on Saturday following a prolonged illness and her last rites were held on Sunday morning.“We requested the Delhi police multiple times to release Abhijeet after he lost his grandmother but they did not release him,” a family member told reporters before the funeral. The Delhi police, in a post on X on Saturday, claimed that Abhijeet was immediately informed about his grandmother’s death and her funeral timings, and they had offered all possible facilitation for his journey to his hometown.(With agency inputs)
