Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) launched its yearly initiative Ekamra Walks with a special cycling trail for delegates attending the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo 2026 on Friday, showcasing sustainable mobility while highlighting the state capital’s green spaces and urban character.Housing and urban development minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra flagged off the cycling trail at 6.30 am from a city hotel. The participants rode to Ekamra Kanan and back, experiencing the city’s natural landscape through an active and environment-friendly mode of transport.“Through the cycling trail, we strived to demonstrate how cycling can serve not only as a sustainable mode of transport but also as a means to connect residents and visitors with public spaces, green corridors and the everyday life of a city,” Mahapatra said.As part of its engagement with UMI delegates, Ekamra Walks has also curated a series of immersive experiences, including Walk in the Wilderness at Deras, heritage trails and Bhubaneswar by Night. The programmes offer participants insights into the city’s natural ecosystems, ancient Kalingan temple architecture and its transformation from a historic temple city into a modern planned urban centre. An initiative of BDA’s Heritage Cell, Ekamra Walks regularly organises guided tours and experiential programmes that bring together Bhubaneswar’s cultural heritage, iconic landmarks, natural landscapes and evolving urban identity.
