‘Need to detoxify myself from this negativity’_ Diya Krishna takes Instagram break after Fort Kochi.

Diya Krishna, daughter of actor and politician Krishnakumar, has announced a temporary break from Instagram after facing criticism over a comment on a video about Fort Kochi. The controversy followed her response to influencer Amrit Singh Darren’s video, which discussed the area’s cultural and social landscape.Explaining her decision to step away, Diya said the experience had exposed her to considerable negativity online. She also warned that social media attacks could affect relationships, regardless of a person’s intentions or character.“I realised no matter how much of a true, kind and good-hearted person you are, some people inside social media can tear you apart if they don’t like you. It can even destroy relationships,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. She then announced her temporary departure from the platform. “Saying goodbye to Instagram for a short while. Need to detoxify myself from this negativity. To everyone who loved me so far, thank you. I’ll forever be grateful to you! Adios,” she added.

Diya Krishna’s comment draws criticism

The backlash began after Diya commented “Sad reality” on a video shared by Amrit Singh Darren. Filmed at Kashi Art Cafe in Fort Kochi, the video raised questions about several aspects of the locality.Darren questioned the display of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s portrait alongside Mahatma Gandhi’s. He also objected to the sale of beef and alleged that Muslims dominated businesses in the area. Additionally, he claimed that local right-wing residents lived in fear.

Diya Krishna says she watched only part of the video

In a clarification video, Diya explained that she had watched the portion featuring Kashi Art Cafe but had missed the latter part. She said she was unaware of Darren’s subsequent remarks about Fort Kochi’s Muslim population and his allegations about residents living in fear.According to Diya, her comment referred specifically to Jinnah’s portrait being displayed alongside Gandhi’s. She said the reaction was not intended to endorse the other claims made in the video.“The name of the cafe is Kashi, which is the oldest city in India. So, in a cafe like Kashi, you can put up Mahatma Gandhi’s picture. He is the Father of the Nation. Nehru, I can understand. But Jinnah, I will never be able to comprehend that. That is why I commented, ‘Sad reality’,” she said.

Diya Krishna denies wanting Muslims to leave Kerala

Diya also rejected suggestions that she held negative views about Muslims or wanted members of the community to leave Kerala. She cited her personal relationships with Muslim friends and relatives while responding to the allegations.“When I have Muslims in my family, how would anyone think I want Muslims out of Kerala? I would never say that,” she said. She also stated that she was Hindu and liked her religion.Diya mentioned that she was in Munnar when she spoke about the controversy. Recalling her journey, she said several Muslim girls had approached her for selfies along the way.

Online negativity prompts Instagram break

Diya said the response to her comment had been upsetting, particularly the hurtful direct messages she received. She also criticised what she described as distorted media reports and urged people not to turn her remarks into a larger controversy.Although she removed the original comment and offered an explanation, the incident continued to attract attention online.
