Rourkela: A 71-year-old old-age pension beneficiary was found dead in a forest under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district on Friday. The deceased, Ghanshyam Sahu of Roda village under Parjang block, was living alone. Police said Sahu allegedly died by suicide in Bauti forest. The incident came to light on Saturday.Parjang police recovered the body and started a probe. The body was sent for post-mortem. A villager claimed that Sahu had repeatedly spoken about not receiving his pension. “He told me that he had not received his pension for four months and asked what could be done. I told him it was up to the govt authorities. He was under financial distress,” the villager said.However, police said the exact reason behind the death is yet to be established. “Our investigation is underway,” said Subrat Sahoo, inspector-in-charge of Parjang police station. Officials are likely to verify the allegations regarding non-payment of pension as part of the inquiry.
