Former Pretty Little Liars actress Shay Mitchell made a quick profit on her vintage Los Angeles home, selling the property for more than its asking price just three years after buying it. Public property records cited by the Los Angeles Times show that Mitchell sold the Spanish-style home, built in 1931, for $1.95 million (£1.27 million at 2015 exchange rates). The final price was higher than the original asking price of $1.895 million, following strong interest from buyers soon after the property went on the market. Mitchell bought the house in 2012 for $1.35 million. During her three years of ownership, she made a gross profit of $600,000 before closing costs and renovation expenses. The gain reflected both rising local property values and the extensive work she carried out to update the home’s interior.

Renovations transform classic Spanish design

Built in the early 1930s, the two-storey home retains many features of classic Spanish Revival architecture. These include arched doorways, wrought-iron details, original tile work, and exposed wooden ceiling beams. According to property listings and reporting by the Los Angeles Times, Mitchell updated the interior while keeping its original style. She replaced dated decorations with custom finishes, modern light fittings, and dark hardwood floors throughout the main living areas. The 2,600-square-foot home has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The main bedroom suite includes a renovated bathroom with modern fittings, as well as a private balcony overlooking the grounds at the back of the property. On the ground floor, French doors in the living room open directly onto an outdoor courtyard. This creates a living space that connects the indoors with the outdoors, making use of Southern California’s warm climate.

Kitchen and outdoor entertaining spaces

The interior renovations also included the kitchen, which was redesigned with custom cabinets, marble countertops, and upgraded stainless steel appliances. Outside, the property has a swimming pool and spa surrounded by mature plants and tall hedges that provide privacy. A patio for outdoor dining sits next to the pool. There is also a built-in fire pit area designed for entertaining guests. Property listing details show that the home includes a separate guest casita with its own bathroom. The extra space can be used as an office or a guest suite.

Swift market turnaround in Los Angeles

The quick sale highlighted strong demand for renovated homes with traditional features across Los Angeles residential neighbourhoods during the spring 2015 property market. The Los Angeles Times reported that the property was listed in mid-April 2015 for $1.895 million. The sale was completed within weeks, closing in May 2015 at $1.95 million. This was $55,000 above the asking price. Sotheby’s International Realty represented Mitchell in the sale, while the buyer had separate representation.

Career shifts and real estate moves

Mitchell played the lead character Emily Fields in the Freeform teen drama series Pretty Little Liars, which ran from 2010 to 2017. While she owned the house, Mitchell expanded her business activities beyond acting. She launched lifestyle platforms and pursued investment projects. After selling the 1931 home, property records showed that she bought a larger estate in the Los Angeles area to use as her main residence.
