Kayadu Lohar explains her stance
The actress was asked about a sequence in the ‘Immortal’ trailer. In the shot, the camera moves from Kayadu Lohar’s face towards her lips.Responding to the question, Kayadu Lohar made it clear that she does not want to be part of projects that use such imagery simply to attract attention.“I don’t agree with unnecessarily objectifying women at all. But if I am convinced that the story and the character require it, and if the role feels convincing to me, then I am okay with it to an extent. Otherwise, I don’t like doing such things just to get attention. It may sometimes trend on Instagram, but I have absolutely no interest in that. I would never say ‘yes’ to such films,” Kayadu said.
Actress says context matters to her
Kayadu Lohar further explained that she looks at the overall story before deciding whether she is comfortable with a particular portrayal.According to the actress, a scene can be acceptable when it has a genuine connection to the character’s journey. She does not, however, support scenes created only to generate attention on social media.
Kayadu Lohar talks about starting conversations
The actress also addressed the larger difficulty of discussing the representation of women in cinema. She said speaking against established practices can sometimes leave an individual feeling isolated.Kayadu Lohar pointed out that people within the industry may often accept certain portrayals as normal. This can make it harder for someone to question them or begin a wider discussion.“Starting a conversation about such things itself is a very difficult thing. We may be the only ones speaking about it, while everyone else may have an attitude of ‘this is how things are here’. You must have seen the backlash against the way a female character was portrayed in a recently released film,” Kayadu added.
