Jharsuguda: Burglars allegedly broke into a jewellery shop in Jharsuguda early Saturday and decamped with gold ornaments estimated worth over Rs 1 crore.The theft took place at Mangaspuria Jewellery near Purunabasti Chowk between 1 am and 2 am. Police said the criminals allegedly gained access to the premises from a neighbouring building and entered the shop by drilling a hole through a third-floor wall. Thereafter, they allegedly made away with gold ornaments displayed in showcases. The burglars also cut wires connected to the CCTV surveillance system and took away the digital video recorder, apparently to erase evidence.The theft came to light when shop owner Praveen Agarwal opened the shop on Saturday morning and found several showcases ransacked and jewellery missing. He later discovered that the CCTV DVR had also been stolen and alerted police. “Burglars entered from the rear side through a neighbouring premises after making a hole in the wall. As per our preliminary estimate, gold jewellery worth around Rs 1 crore has been stolen,” Agarwal said.Jharsuguda SP G R Raghavendra, along with the SDPO and IIC, visited the spot after receiving information about the burglary.Police have launched a probe and are examining available evidence, including possible leads from nearby CCTV cameras, to identify and track down the accused.
