Bhubaneswar: Fresh from a three-day investment outreach in the UAE that secured investment intents worth Rs 2.43 lakh crore for Odisha, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi flew directly to Delhi on Saturday and attended the gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Brics dignitaries. Officials said Majhi is scheduled to return to Bhubaneswar on Sunday.After returning to India, Majhi took to X, where he described the UAE visit as a “new chapter” in Odisha’s journey towards becoming a developed state. “The Odisha Investment Conclave in UAE has further accelerated our development journey by boosting investors’ growing confidence in Odisha,” he wrote .Officials said the UAE outreach marked a significant shift in Odisha’s investment narrative. While metals and downstream industries, traditionally the state’s strength, continued to attract interest, emerging sectors such as green energy, technology and logistics also figured prominently in discussions. The engagement, they said, helped deepen Odisha’s economic, cultural and community ties with the UAE.Additional chief secretary (industries) Hemant Sharma highlighted Odisha’s strong industrial ecosystem, rich mineral base, coastal advantages, investor-friendly policies and speedy project execution. He showcased opportunities across sectors, including aluminium, critical minerals, green hydrogen, logistics, food processing, textiles and semiconductors, positioning Odisha as an attractive destination for global investors.Officials said the successful conclusion of the UAE outreach has added momentum to Odisha’s global investment strategy and strengthened its economic partnership with the Gulf nation. With opportunities spanning both traditional industries and new-age sectors, the state is seeking to attract global capital, technology, manufacturing investments and supply chain partnerships.They described the UAE outreach as a key milestone in Odisha’s roadmap to achieve its target of becoming a $500-billion economy by 2036 and $1.5-trillion economy by 2047. The state govt will now focus on converting investment proposals and partnership discussions into projects on the ground, with emphasis on speedy implementation, employment generation, value creation and stronger domestic and international linkages, officials said.
