
The high-stakes debate on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror started in the Lok Sabha reflecting the gravity of the issues at hand.In the Lok Sabha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, opened the debate on Operation Sindoor, India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.However, as the proceedings began at 11 am today, both houses witnessed chaotic scenes as opposition leaders protested against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral roll. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh declined 14 notices from opposition MPs seeking discussion over Bihar SIR, which led to ruckus and eventual adjournment of the house till noon.In Lok Sabha, opposition leaders were seen carrying placards opposing the Bihar electoral revision. Speaker Om Birla questioned the MPs whether they wanted the discussion they had sought on Operation Sindoor. “Do you not want discussion on Operation Sindoor. (Gaurav) Gogoi ji and other leaders had asked for a debate,” Birla said amid sloganeering in the house. He then adjourned the proceedings till noon. As the house resumed business at 12 pm, the ruckus continued after which the speaker again adjourned proceedings till 1 pm.The debate started at 2 PM. Meanwhile, joining Rajnath in the debate, whenever it starts, will be Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who will present the government’s stand on both the Pahalgam attack and the broader implications of Operation Sindoor.Prominent BJP MPs, including Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey, will also contribute to the debate. On the Opposition side, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge are expected to spearhead the response, along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and several other leaders. On July 25, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that the Opposition had agreed to initiate discussions on national security matters starting Monday in the Lok Sabha and continuing in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
